In the age of 15, he managed to escape and went to reside in the Quilombo dos Palmares. The Palmares is actually a free autonomous Group of African slaves fugitive plantations, Indians and inadequate whites expelled from farms. It is located from the region of Serra da Barriga, that's now Portion of the municipality of União dos Palmares (Alagoas)
